Requirements for the Major
Applicants are admitted to the program on the basis of academic acceptance by the University and a portfolio review. Both the BA in Art + Design and the BA in Art History require the completion of 126 credit hours (40 hours must be at the 300-level or above). University Core Requirements (27 hours) FY101 and 102 | First Year Seminar | 3,3 | GHS (two courses) | Global and Historical Studies | 3,3 | Areas of Inquiry (one course each) | Texts and Ideas (3), The Natural World (5), Analytic Reasoning (3), The Social World (3), Physical Well-Being (1) | 15 | Indianapolis Community Requirement (ICR) | 1 course that involves active engagement with the Indianapolis community | | Social Justice and Diversity (SJD) | ART 317 , ART 319 , or ART 320 fulfills this requirement | | Arts majors are exempt from the following requirements of the University Core Curriculum: Perspectives in the Creative Arts (because they take 9 hours in the arts) and the Butler Cultural Requirement. Required Courses in Art History (24 hours)

Five Additional Courses: Language Requirement (6 hours)
2 Classes at 200 level or above Minor (27 hours)
