ART 314 - Museum Studies: Collecting and Exhibiting Art and Visual Culture Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 This course examines the history, practice, and current issues of collecting and exhibiting art and visual culture, especially in the museum setting. We reflect on the purpose of showing art, and its impact. The class also revisits the visual culture of art shows, world’s fairs, and biennials. We further explore the questions of why, how, and what to collect, as well as the ways in which the public audience experiences art and visual culture. Students will attend field trips to local museums/venues, and are encouraged to conduct research and projects based on collections and resources from local/regional museums and cultural institutions.
