The degree requires the completion of 30 credit hours, including the presentation of a full recital (AM 709  ) and a three—hour public pedagogy workshop (ME 521  ), both of which will be open to the public. A link to the video recording of the final recital and workshop, along with the completed recital grading form and two copies of the printed program, must be submitted to the Director of Graduate Studies following completion of the recital and workshop. These must be completed before the degree will be conferred.

A final comprehensive oral examination (ME 799  ) covering the entire program of study is required at the end of the program (after the successful recital and workshop).

The Graduate Music Diagnostic Exams in music theory and music history are required for placement purposes. Depending on the results of these exams, students may be required to take review coursework (MH 508  ; MT 508  ; and/or other remedial coursework). These review classes count as General Music Electives only.

At least 50% of the curriculum must be courses numbered at the 500-level or higher.
