An introduction to central anthropological concepts of identity formation, cultural diversity, and politics of race in France. The course will develop students’ appreciation of Islamic cultural forms and practices in Europe, as products of and responses to historical circumstances and exigencies, and the ways they become transfigured as they shed and accrue meanings over time in the context of contemporary life in Paris. (U) Occasionally
