PL 350 - Philosophy of Race and Racism Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 This course guides students through historical texts regarding the philosophical development of the terms “race” and “racism,” texts specific to American notions of race, and contemporary examinations of how race affects the lived experiences of different populations. This course engages questions like “what kinds of things are races?” and “are races social phenomena, biological phenomena, both, or neither?” This course evaluates race both in and outside of the Black-White binary and gives a broad review of race from different demographic viewpoints and different philosophical traditions (i.e. epistemology, ethics, social & political philosophy, and metaphysics). (U) Occasionally Prerequisite(s): One PL course or one RGSS course
