PHE 101 - Introduction to Public Health I Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 The course introduces key public health topics including social determinants of health and the methods within the field. This course will begin by asking the questions of “what is health? what is disease? what is public health and what is its role?” The course examines the intersecting nature of health and well-being by examining the burden and distribution of disease and mortality through case studies. Historical examples will introduce the roles society, environment, political and economic systems have on health, illness and disease. Students will begin thinking about public health on a community, national and global level considering the varying stakeholders and institutions involved. The course will also introduce applications of social and behavioral sciences in the field of public health. (U) Fall
