IS 450 - The Middle-East and North Africa Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 This course aims to introduce students to the Middle East and North Africa. This course will focus on various themes which include but are not limited to the history of colonialism in the region, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the conflict in Syria, U.S. foreign policy in the region, the examination of factors for political change, the role of secularism and religion in politics, and issues of Islam and politics, democracy, and human rights (U) Occasionally Prerequisite(s): IS 101 or SW 270-IS or permission of the department chair
