IS 430 - Islam and Human Rights Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 This course aims to introduce students to issues related to Islam and human rights. This course will focus on various themes including discussions of Islam in relation to international human rights, with emphasis on women’s rights, religious freedom, sexual minority rights, and rights issues within specific country case studies, all of which will be examined within the intercession of religion, politics, and social-economic factors. From this course, students should develop an understanding of various social and political science theories as they relate to Islam and human rights. (U) Occasionally Prerequisite(s): IS 101 or permission of the instructor
