HST 359 - Architectural History and Preservation Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 In this course students identify and describe prominent architectural styles that have shaped America’s everyday built environment from colonial times to the present. The course situates the history of American architecture within cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic contexts while emphasizing exterior design of the American home. We will also emphasize more recent approaches and impacts of the historic preservation movement since the 1970s on the conservation of historic buildings, landscapes, and resources. The course culminates with an interpretive and field-based project focusing on various designated historic districts in Indianapolis. (U) Prerequisite(s): Sophomore standing or higher
