This course is an introduction to key topics in the field of linguistics, especially those related (but not limited) to Chinese, English, French, German and Spanish. We will study the major concepts in linguistics and all the key elements of language. We will compare several levels of the structure of languages, such as the phonetics, the morphosyntax, the grammar, the language and social variation, the culture, among many other fields. No previous knowledge of any foreign language is required to take this course. Instruction will be in English. (U) Fall, Spring, Summer
