PL 322 - Africana Philosophy

Min Units: 3
Max Units: 3
This course has two central aims: to give a broader understanding of Africana people’s unique, philosophical contributions, and to analyze the effects of colonization, slavery, and anti-Black racism on both Africana people’s lived experiences and the world broadly. The first aim demonstrates that Africana philosophy is historically rich and contemporarily relevant exterior from, and in response to, Western Philosophy. The second aim is meant to give uptake to the complexity molded by colonization, slavery, and other violences against Africana people. This surveying course engages Africana theorists across the world, with a focus on the Caribbean, France, and the African continent. (U)
Prerequisite(s): One PL course or one African Studies minor course
