Requirements for the Major

The Neuroscience major requires a total of 45-49 credits and consists of the Neuroscience core curriculum along with at least one concentration. Concentrations include Biological, Computational, and Psychological Neuroscience tracks. Students have the option to complete more than one concentration, depending on their interests.

Neuroscience Core Curriculum (required of all students regardless of their chosen concentration):

32-33 credits

Biological Neuroscience Concentration (13-15 credits)

The Biological Neuroscience concentration consists of another 13-15 credits, in addition to the required Neuroscience courses.

• SE 132 - Introduction to Python Programming Min Units: 3
• BI 230 - Ecology and Evolutionary Biology: Fundamentals Min Units: 4
• BI 250 - Biostatistics - Fundamentals Min Units: 4

• Elective Options-Students must complete at least one elective option from the list below: 

• BI 320 - Animal Behavior Min Units: 4
• BI 370 - Basics of Microscopy Min Units: 4
• BI 411 - Principles of Physiology Min Units: 4
• BI 430 - Animal Development Min Units: 4
• BI 433 - Advanced Cell Biology Min Units: 4
• BI 435 - Molecular Genetics Min Units: 4
• RX 610 - Special Topics in Pharmacy & Health Sciences Min Units: 2 *

• * The topic that counts towards the Neuroscience major is ‘Recent Advances in Neuropharmacology’. Other topics that may share the same course number are not applicable to the major and will not meet this requirement.

Computational Neuroscience Concentration (16 credits)

The Computational Neuroscience concentration consists of another 16 credits, in addition to the required Neuroscience courses.

Psychological Neuroscience Concentration (14-15 credits)

The Psychological Neuroscience concentration consists of another 14-15 credits, in addition to the required Neuroscience courses.

• SE 132 - Introduction to Python Programming Min Units: 3
• PS 210 - Research Methods/Statistics I Min Units: 3
• PS 211 - Research Methods/Statistics II Min Units: 3

• PS 404 - Sensory Processes and Perception Min Units: 3

• PS 412 - Advanced Applied Neuroscience Min Units: 3
• PS 413 - Neuroscience of Drugs Min Units: 3

• Please note that either PS412 or 413 is also required for your Core Neuroscience curriculum and will not double count for the concentration as well. Therefore, you need to take an additional course to meet this concentration requirement than what you used to meet the Core Neuroscience requirement.
