PHE 102 - Introduction to Public Health II Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 This course builds on Introduction to Public Health Part I by continuing the dialogue of what is health and disease with an emphasis on clinical aspects of public health. This course will include a basic introduction to epidemiology as well as introduce principles of evidence-based public health. The course will discuss tools for implementing evidence-based public health in a variety of contexts, including health communications and informatics, health policy, law and ethics. Additionally, methods for addressing non-communicable disease, communicable diseases, environmental diseases and disaster will be introduced. An overview of the U.S. healthcare system and comparisons with health care systems in other developed countries will be included. Students will also have an opportunity to examine public health institutions and systems at the local/state, federal and global levels while considering future issues in public health.
