MA 311 - Number Theory Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 This course studies the properties of the integers. Topics include divisibility, the Euclidean algorithm, prime numbers, unique factorization, linear congruences, the Chinese Remainder Theorem, and applications to public-key cryptography. Additional topics may include primitive roots, quadratic residues, factorization algorithms, Diophantine equations, continued fractions, and the distribution of primes.
