GHS 212 - Asian Americas - Empire, Diaspora, and Identity in the Modern World Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 Asians are one of the fastest growing minoritized communities in the Americas and have influenced the history, culture, language, religion, economics and politics of the region over the last two centuries. yet, most college students have little to no understanding of the diversity and complexity of the communities and their lived experiences in the Americas. This course invites students to embark on this transpacific journey of discovery through the lenses of history and critical social justice. To understand the lived experiences of various Asian communities in the Americas today, students will be encouraged to interrogate the historical sources of social injustice through a multiplicity of sources and disciplines ranging from the arts, humanities and social sciences.
