GHS 207 - Resistance & Rights: Global Women Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 In this course, we will examine the means by which women around the globe work individually and collectively to gain basic human rights. Issues of culture, religion, tradition, beauty, tourism, health, war, immigration, and the media will be explored as we consider the possibilities for activism and resistance to oppression. .Our “lens” for this course will be transnational, intersectional feminism, which is likely quite different from the Western liberal feminism many of you may be familiar with. We will apply that lens primarily to understanding the connections between patriarchal, capitalist, and imperialist systems, striving to understand how we can support women in gaining basic human rights within these systems while also coming to understand the ongoing and historic inequities and injustices perpetuated by these systems.
