CH 362 - Biochemistry I Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 This course continues the study of biochemistry from CH 361 and places more emphasis upon the dynamic and interconnected regulation of biological systems. The organization of the course will involve a division of the course material into multiple broad topics: 1) Protein Structure and Function with a focus on enzymes, 2) Central Dogma of Biochemistry, and 3) Biological Membranes: Structure, Transportation, and Signal Transduction. Other chemical concepts, such as chemical equilibria, thermodynamics, kinetics, stereochemistry, and chemical mechanism will also be examined within a biological context. In addition, the goal for this course is to help you as part of your liberal arts education to apply your knowledge of chemical structures, quantitative analysis, and complex problem solving to understand the molecular basis for life. By the end of the course, you should be able to read and understand the primary biochemical literature. (U) Fall Prerequisite(s): CH 352 , BI 220 , CH 361 with a grade of C or better
