Middle/Secondary Education, BS - Social Studies Content Area


Middle/Secondary Education majors with the Social Studies content area can choose between Option A: Social Studies/History program or Option B: History/Political Science program.

OPTION A: Social Studies/History Content Area Requirements (52 hours)


Following this curricular plan will ensure that you meet the Butler University and initial Indiana licensing course requirements for teaching Social Studies for grades 5-12. Courses must be completed with a grade of C or better to meet the standard for College of Education students. 

OPTION B: History/Political Science Content Area Requirements (52 hours)


Following this curricular plan will ensure that you meet the Butler University and initial Indiana licensing course requirements for teaching Social Studies and Government/Citizenship for grades 5-12. Courses must be completed with a grade of C or better to meet the standard for College of Education students. 

Second Major Requirements


Middle/Secondary Education majors with the Social Studies content area may also choose to declare a second major in History, BA  or HIstory and Political Science Major, BA ​​

Additional courses beyond those listed above are required for students declaring a second major. Students should see their LAS advisor for additional requirements.
