Environmental Studies Core Courses (23 Hours):

The following courses are required

• ENV 200 - Intro to Environmental Studies Min Units: 3
• NW 225-ENV - Environmental Science Min Units: 5
• ST 200 - Intro to Science and Technology Studies Min Units: 3
• ST 205 - Science and Society Speakers Seminar Min Units: 1 (1-credit course that must be completed two times) Credits / Units: 2
• ENV 330 - Geographic Information Systems Min Units: 4
• ENV 411 - Internship in Environmental Studies Min Units: 1
• ENV 450 - Environmental Studies Capstone Seminar Min Units: 3

STS Course (3 Hours):

One of the following STS courses is required

• ST 310 - Social Studies of Science and Technology Min Units: 3
• ST 320 - Philosophy of Science Min Units: 3
• ST 330 - Language, Rhetoric, and Science Min Units: 3

Environmentally-Focused Lab Science Courses (8-10 Hours)

Two additional laboratory science courses from the following list are required

• BI 230 - Ecology and Evolutionary Biology: Fundamentals Min Units: 4
• NW 201-BI - Environmental Biology Min Units: 5
• NW 205-BI - Urban Ecology: Exploring and Enhancing the Urban Environment of Indianapolis Min Units: 5
• NW 207-BI - Ecology and the Natural Environment Min Units: 5
• NW 260-COE - Earth Systems Science Min Units: 5
• NW 261-BI - Food: Pasture, Table, Body, and Mind Min Units: 5
• NW 265-ENV - Weather, Climate, and Society Min Units: 5
• BI 417 - Tropical Terrestrial Biology Min Units: 4
• BI 418 - Advanced Ecology Min Units: 4
• BI 446 - Ecosystem Ecology Min Units: 4

Elective Courses (12 Hours):

An additional 12 hours of environmental studies elective courses are required.  The following courses may be used as electives:

• ENV courses not already being used to satisfy the above requirements
• Courses from other departments that bear the ENV designation not already being used to satisfy the above requirements.

At least 9 hours of electives must be at the 300 level or above.No more than one of the research methods courses PS 210, PS 211, and SO 393 may count toward this requirement.

Note: Students majoring in Environmental Studies who wish to complete a minor or 2nd major in Science, Technology and Society (STS) may not use courses already taken for their Environmental Studies major to satisfy elective requirements within the STS major or minor.
