Butler University Bulletin 2025-2026
Licensed Mental Health Counselor Certificate
|
|
Butler University offers a graduate non-degree program that provides the 12-credit-hours of coursework necessary for most individuals holding a 48-credit-hour Master of Science in School Counseling degree to satisfy the academic requirements to be a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Indiana. While designed specifically for school counselors, admission is open to anyone needing these courses for licensure, and the classes can be taken individually pending availability. With demand for mental health workers on the rise, the LMHC certificate opens the door to many interesting job opportunities for those who are close to license eligibility.

GPA & Grade Requirements
Students must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher AND a grade of C or higher in each required course to receive a degree or certificate. Courses in which a student earns a grade lower than C (e.g., C-, D, F) will not count toward degree or certificate requirements, but will be factored into a student’s cumulative GPA. Students may retake courses to meet the requirements above, but in no case will a student be allowed to take more than 12 credit hours in excess of the degree or certificate requirements to do so. Any graduate student who fails to make satisfactory progress in coursework requirements may be declared academically ineligible for additional enrollment. |
