GHS 213 - Jewish Diasporas: Journeys of Identity

Min Units: 3
Max Units: 3
By presenting multiple narratives of Jewish journeys throughout space and time, this course on Jewish diasporas highlights different perspectives on identity, belonging, and community. Although focused on late modern (19th, 20th, and 21st centuries) experiences and events, it provides broad historical contextualization while utilizing multidisciplinary tools and approaches such as scientific, anthropological, literary, and rhetorical modes. The course will also explore how the history of antisemitism has influenced diasporic movements such as Zionism and the interactions of Jewish groups with non-Jewish groups. (U)
