JC 350 - Butler Arts & Events Center Event & Production Experiential Learning

This course is designed to give students the opportunity to learn more about either front-of-house or backstage venue operations through practical experience in the venues of the Butler Arts & Events Center (BAEC). Students will either work as ticket takers or ushers in any of the Butler Arts & Events Center venues or they will provide backstage assistance to the Schrott Center, Shelton Auditorium, or Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall by accomplishing specified tasks under the supervision of a staff member and in consultation with the faculty instructor. Requirements include a minimum of 40 scheduled crew hours for backstage crew OR working at least eight events as front-of-house staff, and a culminating written reflection of the student’s learning experience. The instructor will confirm completion of the required hours/events with the respective Butler Arts & Events Center employee for each student. (U) Fall and spring
Prerequisite(s): Two semesters of JC 150 OR two semesters of employment at BAEC. Employment will be confirmed with BAEC staff prior to enrollment in JC 350.
