Max Units: 1
This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to learn more about either front-of-house or backstage venue operations through practical experiences in the Butler Arts & Events Center (BAEC). Students will either work as ticket takers or ushers in any of the Butler Arts & Events Center venues, or they will provide backstage assistance to the Schrott Center, Shelton Auditorium, or Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall by accomplishing specified tasks under the supervision of a staff member and in consultation with the faculty instructor. Training will be provided by BAEC staff. Requirements include a minimum of 40 scheduled hours for backstage crew OR working at least eight events as front-of-house staff, and a culminating written reflection of the student’s learning experience. The instructor will confirm completion of the required hours/events with the respective Butler Arts & Events Center employee for each student. Upon the completion of two semesters of JC 150 OR two semester working for BAEC without credit (sometimes students work there and don’t enroll for credit) and within these capacities, students are able to enroll in JC 350 as their responsibilities and skills grow during their time working for BAEC and thus are eligible for higher level credit to align with their experiences and skill development.
