GHS 206 - Africa and the World: Past Legacies and Contemporary Transformations Min Units: 3 Max Units: 3 Africa is not a country but a complex continent with dozens of countries and hundreds of languages. African people, polities, cultures and societies have shaped and been shaped by the rest of the world since the first humans emerged from the continent. This course will deepen student’s understanding of Africa’s past and present by looking within and beyond the continent from an interdisciplinary and comparative framework. Students will encounter differing critical perspectives on everyday life, on identities, and on dynamic historical processes such as enslavement, colonialism, and popular movements.
